You will require a doctors referral if you are claiming physiotherapy treatment under WorkCover, CTP (motor vehicle accidents), Veterans Affairs or the Medicare chronic disease management plan schemes.

At your first appointment your physio will take a comprehensive history of the complaint, prior to carrying out a physical examination. The physical exam involves assessing the local area and any associated areas deemed relevant. This includes performing any necessary functional tests and following the assessment your physio will perform any relevant treatment and offer advice.
Following the assessment your physiotherapist in consultation with you, will devise a treatment plan. Your personalised treatment plan will involve ways of relieving pain, restoring mobility and function as appropriate.
Any treatment provided may include techniques ranging from: hands on manual therapy, exercise prescription, taping or bracing, dry needling and electrotherapy modalities. All treatment modalities are coupled with the appropriate education to assist you in managing your condition.

Work-related injuries can be billed directly to your employer’s workers compensation insurers. Patients require a WorkCover physio referral from your doctor. Once we have received this referral, with confirmation of a valid claim number Sydney Physio Clinic will bill your insurer directly.
Claiming under the Motor Accidents Scheme with CTP physio claims patients must ring their insurer for permission to commence immediate treatment. As with WorkCover physio treatment CTP physio treatment requires a valid GP referral. Sydney Physio Clinic will bill your insurer directly for any CTP physio services. Doing so, provided we have received confirmation of a valid claim number.
In some situations Medicare will part pay a contribution towards your physiotherapy treatment. This is at the discretion of your doctor and is for patients with chronic health problems who need to see multiple care providers. A maximum of 5 physiotherapy treatments within one calendar year is allowed as per covered by Medicare. To obtain such contribution you will need a referral from your doctor to claim your medicare physiotherapy. A referral under a Chronic Disease Management Plan.
